Photo credit: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/abhinaba\/4711308760\/in\/photolist-8bjFXo-95bvB4-debjEy-88VVDP-eg16LF-95ezN7-6q3C9y-5p2G7w-88YXa7-debjZ2-95bvrx-88VFSM-88ZaPb-88VR76-debjCV-95bvDp-evaFbi-8dZCbY-pfoP2B-51qH7P-87S2XG-pUHkWe-fEmV5B-qc9Gpt-2d4FtJ-pUHmjP-mniNug-6q3Cj1-88VW5r-88VRk2-6WWP7t-88VS6F-7wStqA-debjz8-4qSRMY-8MjVcn-88Z1g1-4PZKFr-88VHKF-af4TEg-2AhvXu-88Z1wC-4fo8Ji-9jAUo8-fTnUbM-88YYBC-af8BR5-J6atF-88Z99d-af5tmg\">Abhinaba Basu<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>So you&#8217;ve seen all the major Seattle landmarks.<\/p>\n<p>They were amazing\u00a0(naturally).<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ve taken in the sights, and you have the dozen Instagram photos in the past 24 hours to prove it.<\/p>\n<p>But you want something a little more.<\/p>\n<p>Something to make you feel less like a tourist and more like a local.<\/p>\n<p>When in Seattle, do as the Seattleites do, as they say.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;ve done the big headline stuff, and you&#8217;re ready for a deeper dive, look no further than:<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattle.gov\/parks\/find\/parks\/alki-beach-park\">Alki Beach<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>When it comes to views, many people&#8217;s first choice is Kerry Park on Queen Anne Hill.<\/p>\n<p>But Alki offers equally stunning views of the incomparable Seattle skyline\u00a0from the beaches of West Seattle.<\/p>\n<p>A landmark in and of itself, the beach is also wide open facing west, meaning you&#8217;ll get a full sunset display with oranges and yellows reflecting off skyscrapers at the right time.<\/p>\n<p>Not to mention the iconic ferries gliding continually across Elliott Bay that&#8217;ll be right in front of you.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"http:\/\/fryemuseum.org\/\">Frye Art\u00a0Museum<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>Want to experience beautiful\u00a0art without spending too much on tickets?<\/p>\n<p>The Frye is your place; tickets cost exactly $0.<\/p>\n<p>And don&#8217;t make the mistake that it&#8217;s not great because it&#8217;s free.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;d be missing out on a world class gallery if you did.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zoo.org\/\">Woodland Park Zoo<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>This one is a family favorite.<\/p>\n<p>Explore all manner of wild exhibits from the plains\u00a0of North America to the tropical forests of Asia.<\/p>\n<p>And don&#8217;t forget the penguins at the Humboldt Penguin Exhibit.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"http:\/\/www.seattle.gov\/parks\/find\/parks\/gas-works-park\">Gas Works Park<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>The site of\u00a0an old\u00a0gasification (real word!) plant, Gas Works Park is now a public park with rolling hills, a recreation area, and fantastic views of the city from north Lake Union.<\/p>\n<p>On a sunny day, there&#8217;s no better spot in town for an afternoon picnic.<\/p>\n<h4>BONUS: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/TheGumWall\/\">The Gum Wall<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>You won&#8217;t have to go far for this one: it&#8217;s right across the street from us.<\/p>\n<p>A theater production company put\u00a0their bits of gum to the wall and attached\u00a0coins to them once back in the &#8217;90s.<\/p>\n<p>Passersby followed suit, and the trend sort of, well&#8230; <em>stuck<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h3>Eat<\/h3>\n<h4><a href=\"http:\/\/cutterscrabhouse.com\/\">Cutters Crabhouse<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>Another one close by at Pike Place Market, Cutters features a spectacular array of fresh, local seafood, from steamed whole Dungeness crab, to wild salmon poke, to Pacific sashimi grade ahi tuna.<\/p>\n<p>The Northwest is seafood heaven, and Cutters is a delicious slice of that heaven.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ddir.com\/\">Dick&#8217;s Drive-In<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>As far as fast food goes, this local burger chain is the undisputed king of the town.<\/p>\n<p>Ask any Seattleite worth their salt where the best burgers are, there&#8217;s a good chance they&#8217;ll answer with &#8220;Dick&#8217;s.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Tip for Californians: say In-N-Out is better if you&#8217;re in the mood for a heated debate.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mattsinthemarket.com\/\">Matt&#8217;s in the Market<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>It doesn&#8217;t get much more convenient when it comes to nearby dining.\u00a0Matt&#8217;s is 30\u00a0seconds away.<\/p>\n<p>Want to try one of those fish you saw being thrown around? Matt&#8217;s serves Market Fish from right across the street.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepinkdoor.net\/\">The Pink Door<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>The Pink Door recently reopened after some renovations, and it&#8217;s even more wonderful than its predecessor.<\/p>\n<p>And knowing its previous iteration,\u00a0that&#8217;s hard to do.<\/p>\n<p>Enjoy a classic, produce-driven, Italian-inspired menu, warm, friendly staff, and acrobats dangling from the ceiling.<\/p>\n<p>Wait, what?<\/p>\n<p>Yes, really. Trapeze, cabaret, music, and tarot are all just a part of dinner here.<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"http:\/\/www.salumicuredmeats.com\/\">Salumi<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>The project of Armandino Batali and family (including son Mario), this small salumeria in Pioneer Square would otherwise be unnoticeable.<\/p>\n<p>The meats you&#8217;ll get here, though, will leave a noticeably delicious impression.<\/p>\n<p>Word to the wise: if you pre-order before you arrive (206.621.8772 or orders@salumicuredmeats.com), you can skip the rather massive lunch lines that form.<\/p>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4><\/h4>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So you&#8217;ve seen all the major Seattle landmarks.
